Going to the beach tomorrow, but I use a self tanner..?

i would like to get a tan from the sun for the summer, but im pale and i dont want to take the self-tanner off. it's like taking off an insecure woman's makeup! will i get a sun tan under the sunless tanner's tan, and when i wash off the sunless tanner, i will still have my sun tan??? how does this work, what should i do if i wear sunless tanner and have been wearing it for over a year now? no negative comments about how sun rays are unhealthy..blahblahblah IDC.
