Whats a good way to tan?

I am naturally very pale, blonde hair etc... and I do not tan very well at all. Either outside or at a bed, it takes a really long time for me to tan and fades quickly. So not going to waste my time or skin damage this year by bothering with the attempt but do want to get some color. I've tried mystic tan in the past, looked terrible, so thats out. What are some good sunless tanning products that you can pick up from Walmart, Rite-Aid etc...? I randomly picked up the Kroger brand lotion called Summer Glow but havent used it more than once yet, also would this be ok to use on my face?... At Sally Beauty supply I saw this one product that Im thinking of trying called the MitTan, but havent found many reviews for it... Thanks!
