Do I have to exfoliate before applying my second coat of sunless tanner?

Last night I exfoliated in the shower and then later applied lotion and my sun labs tanner. tomorrow I want to apply another layer of it. Do I need to exfoliate b4 I do? or will that take off the tan? also, I really messed up my arms. some spots I have too much and some spots I don't have enough. I tried fixing it this morning but.. didn't go so well. How do I fix that?
